“I learned to wander. I learned what every dreaming child needs to know. That no horizon is so far that you cannot get above it or beyond it.”
-Beryl Markham-

Across the centuries and from many lands, women have yearned to travel and explore the world even though they were almost everywhere forbidden to wander. Through jungles, across rivers and deserts, atop mountains and by sea, these women challenged the limitations of their times and defied formidable circumstances in their quest for knowledge. Today, women continue to chart new territory in nearly every area of exploration, adding immensely to our understanding of life on earth.

The WWQ Expeditions Archive is a growing database of expeditions, past and present. The archive reveals the magnitude of women’s contributions to the history of exploration and tells their many stories of magnificent adventure and bravery. Search by name, date or area of exploration to travel with our women of discovery.
