Birgit Sattler's "Sparkling Science" Expedition
Wing's 2008 Awardee and Fellow, Birgit Sattler, takes a group of kids on expedition in the Alps.
This winter, Birgit Sattler helped to launch the Austrian Ministry of Science's Sparkling Science programme with a youth expedition in the Alps. The first kidīs high mountain expedition was made to Birgit's research station at 2.400m. Birgit's team applied to the Ministry for this youth expedition project and we are so pleased to say they won the competition! As part of the celebration, they area all invited to go to Vienna in June to receive an award from the Austrian Ministry for Science. The kids are so proud! The expedition was great fun as you can see by the pictures shown here. The kids walked up the Alps in a snow storm and were accompanied by a TV crew which produced a wonderful report on the two-day expedition. Best part, they had their own expedition dog, who unfortunately, trembled so on the ice that the kids took him into the research station sauna for relief!
